  • Thaats always have 7 pitches and are a basis for the organizing & classifying raags of Hindustani classical music.
  • Thaat system was invented by Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande (1860-1936).

Bhatkhande was first Indian musicologist who wrote the modern treatise on Hindustani Classical Music, an art which was propagated mostly through oral traditions.
